Do FAANG guys really face leetcode kind of problem anytime after getting in?
I guess, FAANG management do not have any other way to weed out candidates. #tech #FAANG

    I’ve never even used a binary tree in any form of coding

    It prevents nepotism. I mean if you can’t be bothered to do a couple 100 LC problems is indicative.

    Alternatively if it’s too much of a difficulty then it does show ability

      No, LC can't prevent nepotism or cronyism if you know the right people. At my previous company I was interviewing a guy for an engineering manager position. The guy was an ex-Microsoft a**hole who was a friend of the hiring manager. Before the interview the hiring manager pulls me aside and tells me not to ask any coding questions even though managers are expected to code. Sure enough this guy gets hired without a proper technical screen and can't code.

      I mean there are always exceptions to the rule. But at scale for SWES this has prevented the following;

      Contractors from body shops being rolled over

      Spouses getting in based on just referrals

      Hiring college buddies

      Right there you have created a generally fair system for almost the bulk of hiring.

      A few bad apples might slip through.

    I was going to use a fancy tree-like data structure once and got excited, but then management deemed the problem space too time-consuming to be worth the effort.

    Today I wrote code that trapped water in a 2d bar graph and then wrote code to translate an alien language into english.

    Pushed the code to production and nights booked is already up 4% since yesterday.

    Yes leetcode questions are relevant to your day to day job.

    I think it's an ageist practice to keep new blood in.

      Age can work both ways. I know 40 year olds who have done pretty much all of leetcode.

      In fact leetcode engineers of today will stay competitive even as they age.

      You can know 40 year olds who do anything but the majority of people who have time to put into passing leetcodes are young blood.
