People who complain about WLB either slack a lot and end up having to work long hours to make up for it… or don’t know how to manage their time and get things done in time.

Really it’s more complicated than that. If one person on a team is working long while others in similar or the same role are not then I agree. They’re either not skilled for the role, aren’t managing time well, or aren’t managing expectations well.

More often I see teams in general working long. That is usually due to someone higher up not managing the workloads correctly or expects more from the same resources in a minimal amount of time. Could be a business need or it could just be stakeholders asking for everything because they can. I’ve experienced both and it usually requires leadership to manage it unless you’re empowered to do so yourself.

It sounds like you’ve never worked with international teams.

  • Not every time…!! There are projects where things are generally expected to complete too too soon, and it’s not about not setting expectations right, yea maybe someone did that but a date may have been committed and nothing can be done.
