Anyone here how AT&T rank in salary for data scientist?
Atlanta
ATT offered me a position after a short contract. Their base salary was low. They tried to sell me on bonus and cost of living increases. I declined. It's the most dysfunctional environment I have ever seen.
What did they offer and what are you being paid where you are now?
Can you share your comp/location? Atlanta is quite cheap to live in so your total comp might actually be competitive.
I'm in Austin in and compared to salaries in Austin I'm 15k below. Compared to the median salary for my level within AT&T I'm below by 14k.
I'm in UX. Just wanted to warn you :). 140,000 contract. They offered 110 + 10% bonus and an additional company bonus that "they always get."
Don't you get benefits when you go off contract? 401k match, health insurance, etc. and lower taxes (assuming you were independent contractor) might make up for it, right?
Excellent points. It was more about the culture for me. It's simply was not a place I could see myself long term, or short term to be honest.
Senior-Inventive Scientist (Labs-Big Data Research) Salary range dependent on geographical cost of living area. https://access1.sbc.com/staffing/Geo_City_and_State.pdf N1: 85k-171k N2: 95k-190k N3: 106k-213k N4: 114k-228k
AT&T wants you to believe they offer competitive salaries, but check them against Glassdoor.com and others - they a traditionally a minimum of $20k+ under the comp. They like to tell you oh, you get 6% 401k matching, XX% annual bonus (which you don't always get 100% of - it's based on whether the org your in meets or exceeds goals), and most of the time I was there over 20 years - you got a sad 3% cost of living salary increase annually - there in 2008 no one got an increase for 3-4 years! Took me contracting at other companies to see this when I opted not to accept their relocation offer to follow my job to Dallas. There are companies that offer more in sign on bonuses than I got for my $40k severance payout. Really opened my eyes! As well as vesting in stock as well! Do yourself a favor, contract but going FTE you'll under value yourself and they won't support your training - you'll need to do that out of pocket. They'll try to direct you to an internal 'free' basic training for UI/UX, accessibility, data analysis, and say that should be adequate for you to be successful ... ER-um, no it's not. Thank God for online webinars and blogs! Also forget using any cutting edge apps or software - they won't give you a license without going all the way up the ladder to a VP for approval. AT&T wants to be a cutting edge competitive company - but not willing to invest in their employees and empower them with the tools they need to be successful.
Does the 40k severance pay include your accumulated 401k or in addition?
Severance was calculated based on the number of years I worked with my current salary ... 401k does not play a factor.
Run away. Randell Judas Stevenson has created a toxic environment in the company. Everyone is fighting to save themselves from all the layoffs. Praised the tax cuts but keeps dumping the employees.
