Hi ! I am coming from a non faang company in EU and finally got my first big offer : Amazon Dublin.

I am also interviewing for Google Zurich but from what I have heard the process can take up to 6 months due to very long team matching. And that would be if I pass Google bar (solved 240 leetcode, mostly medium).

I have 4 yoe.

My current tc : 55k€

Amazon offer :
Base 98k€
Y1 bonus 40k€
Y2 bonus 20k€
30 RSU vested in 4 years.

Big increase for me, but Dublin is really expensive so I need more.

How should I negotiate ?

How is WLB in Aws Dublin (cloudwatch) ? is it as shitty as USA and India ? I am a hard worker and real good coder but I don’t want to move to Dublin just to get piped. I am a non EU citizen.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks blind !#engineering #amazon #negotiation

PIP is inevitable in Amazon. One day all of us will get PIPed here.

This is a very nice L5 offer. All AWS teams generally have a pretty bad wlb in Dublin. You could get in and transfer to another Dublin team internally, outside of AWS, in 6 months.
And you can try to get a couple more RSUs if you show a competing offer, but this reads as 140k€ TC for the 1st year (assuming cliff at 1y), so it's about right

Not gonna lie, it's bad. Check out the places online before you move to get an idea. daft.ie is the place.
Aim for South Dublin (even post code, i.e. D2, D4, D6, D8,...) as it's generally better and nicer. If you will rely on public transport, I prefer Luas (tram) over buses. Dart (the rail) is another option, but it's also a 10 minute walk from the Amazon office.
Depending on your situation, you may save a lot by sharing a big place with a housemate (I had the luck of sharing a 160m² penthouse apartment with what turned into a best friend and we spent 2800€ per month on it - 1400€ each. On the other hand, a mediocre 2br would have cost me 2000€ easily and be nowhere as nice).
When going to viewings, have your proof of employment (Amazon will give you that) and previous landlord. Say to them that you work at Amazon (or whatever big tech you end up in) - it helps secure the viewing and getting the place.
And be prepared for a lot of rejection - it took me about 12 viewings before getting a place).

Yeah, SF and NY folks will laugh at this, but coming from elsewhere in Europe, it's much harder in Dublin.

Source: I lived in Dublin for 2 years and worked at Amazon before I transferred to another EU country last month. Feel free to DM if you have some specific questions

With an offer that high, you have every chance of getting piped if you falter. But anyways congrats on your offer.

Hey, congrats!!! I will be joining Cloudwatch in Dublin as well. My offered TC is pretty much the same as yours, so I’m also curious how much more you can get.

Congrats on your offer again and I wish you can negotiate a better TC! :)

No, I already took the offer as is. I checked glassdoor and levels.fyi and it looks like the offer I got was good enough, and since I didn’t have competing offers, I knew my possibilities to negotiate a better TC weren’t much.

I live in a third world country, so any TC from a Big Tech company is a great improvement compared to what I make now.
