I got a request to fly to Seattle to do an on-site for a TPM role (on their dime). I am not crazy about the role and hear the AWS culture is toxic and wlb is crud. I am comfortable at Salesforce and Approved for HC from Google. I hear the base at AWS maxes out at $160 which is below what I am now... And at sfdc I have $140k in RSUs ($50k vested now.) Worth the long trip and turn around for this? Not crazy about the opportunity. TC $205 YOE 13 Location Northern Virginia and role is in northern Virginia
I’m confused. Worth it for what exactly then? What are you hoping to gain? You could always have a comp level setting conversation before choosing to go.
They are giving me zero info on level and comp ranges
You can give a big number and see how they react.
I mean you basically get a free vaca to Seattle, if nothing else. It seems strange they didn’t talk comp before. The recruiter I worked with had the TC discussion on our very first phone call.
Not really a vacation. 6 hour flight 1 way and 8 hours on site.... Then back on a plane the next day.
I think you've answered your own question
I am confused the role is based in Virginia and onsite is in Seattle? They do that?
Yes, Hiring Manager is in Seattle and most of the team.
Thats cool. Nothing to lose might as well do it. If you clear it you will get preference if you want to move there in the future gluck 👍🏻
Sounds like a lot of effort for probably no payoff. I wouldnt do it
Would be good to get a counter offer to try and make Google hurry up
That is what I thought reading over the messages
Many people at 13 yoe at amazon make considerably more than 205k. Being in nova shouldn’t mean less salary either. The base may not pass 160, but amazon gives lots of RSUs. Do you know what level they’re hiring you for?
HC in google? You will get more RSUs in amazon for sure. Their pay structure is different
Nothing to lose.
