Idk why I can’t wrap my head around this but need some help.

So say you start at AWS Jan 1st 2021 and are given x amount of base, sign-on, and RSU’s

After your first year do you get anything of a raise? Can you get a RSU increase after your first year? Or do you not see any increase other than stock appreciation till after year two where then you could be awarded more RSU’s that would vest at the end of year 3 or 4.

Just trying to wrap my head around this. Seems like it wouldn’t matter if you’re an exceeds until after year two?

TIA!

You get annual stock increases based on performance that usually vest two years out. You also get more stock after each promotion.

Most likely not - first two years you get very little stock vesting, so there’s only a small variation in TCT. You’ll most likely get more stock after year two that doesn’t vest for a bit assuming the stock goes up.

It boils down to what your comp target is and what your comp is in reality. If actual comp is even slightly higher you get nothing

You won’t get any new RSUs unless you are way under target from the original plan I.e. stock tanked. They want to you always have 3 years of “runway” for stock, so additional stock talk doesn’t start until year 2023 when they are planning for 2025.

Of all the RSUs they assigned you, you get 5% after 1 yr, 15% after 2, and 20% every six months after.

There is a small salary bump each year 1-3%

This is all from my experience as an SDE1 hired in 2019. Fun fact: stock has done well since I joined, so when I got promo this month they didn’t give me anymore RSUs 🤡

I haven’t seen what zuMI3 is talking about, annual stock refreshers, but could be my org or maybe I’m a talentless hack 🤷‍♂️

  • I think people on Blind should really consider these "zomg massive Amazon offers" in the context of having no or shitty refreshers...

After your first year, you’re likely to get nothing unless your base pay isn’t maxed out. Then you’ll get a small base pay increase.
