How hard is it to get more than "Meets Expectations"? What's the bump in RSU grant for every perf level? Is that bump negotiable (lower vesting period, more grant, etc)? Joining soon...
There are three levels. Lowest gets you a performance plan and zero raise. Middle 70% get 1-2% bump. A handful at the top of that middle rating get a discretionary extra bump - manager has a budget for this. So maybe 3-4%. Top 20% get their comp adjusted to target around the 60th percentile of the band. Combo of base increase and RSU grant, but only after your second year are you eligible for a new grant. Big comp issue here is that you don't see the fruit of your new grant for a year or two.
Thanks for the detailed reply. How hard is it to be in the top 20%? I know that I'm jumping the gun but why not. Are SDEs stack-ranked only in their level? I'm joining as L4. Will I also be ranked against L5, L6, etc?
Stacked ranked under your director or org depending on size. Only against others at your level and role, e.g. all L4 SDEs in your org. It's indirectly hard to get consistent top ratings because if you're getting TT you'll be promoted after a few as well. And then at the next level you aren't likely to immediately be better than 80% of people already there.
