AWS cleared positions?

What’s it like working at AWS as a cleared developer? I’m in Seattle but thinking of moving to DC for family reasons and I know AWS in Herndon has cleared positions.

ADC teams usually work with commercial service teams. ADC team is responsible for all the oddities that make the service in ADC different from commercial, but most of development happens on commercial side. Usually there is more breadth, since ADC trams support many services with less HC than commercial side. Escalations go to commercial side, which has no visibility into 'high side', so commercial is usually helping with troubleshooting over the phone, more or less blindly.

How technical is the position? Is it a lot of just blindly running commands for people?

This is very team-specific. There is a 'generalist' cleared team which lends cleared engineers to other teams. Not a lot of depth is expected there. But there are teams that are more aligned with commercial service teams. They actually know what they do and are more or less self sufficient. Development still originates from commercial side for the most part, but cleared team members have to CR things that affected cleared regions

Be warned, they will want you to take a polygraph (multiple actually). You become less of a developer and more of an admin tenanting antiquated code. I wasn’t a dev but I saw a bunch of good devs leave because of the heavy ops burden that comes with the role. Good luck to you.
