AWS level negotiations possible?

Mar 18 8 Comments

Have been down levelled in interview from L6 to L5. The recruiter told me I was very close but this offers a better opportunity for growth.

Would like to understand if Amazon negotiates on the Level at all?

Don't join at a lower level. It will take 2-3 years to go to the next level if everything goes well.

They don't negotiate level and this is a very common tactic to screw you. I guarantee you it was something arbitrary and someone on the loop felt insecure about how hard they had to work for the level and they want to gatekeep it. It should either be a yes or no, a downlevel is just insulting

L6 promos are harder and depends on your manager as well. If they offer you a good pay which can help you overcome the fact you were downleveled, then take it, else no. Dont assume you will get promoted in 6 months or even 2 years.

Tell the recruiter that you want the offer letter to review. Reject it stating you were looking for L6 and will try again in future.

Use that Amazon offer letter for entry TC negotiation somewhere better, which compared to Amazon means basically anywhere else - or just to wipe your ash with…. but whatever you choose do not accept an offer from Amazon / AWS.
