Got a verbal offer. They are saying its for a IC5 but not opposed to IC6. Its a Cloud CTO role as a part of the pre-sales engineering org. Is it worth the risk? Any idea about the team there? Life is good(busy) here at AWS, so thinking why shake the nest. Base: 215 RSU: 7K (over 4 yrs) Signing bonus: Nil Commission: 30% Location: Remote Current TC: 220K, L6 YOE: 12 #Oracle #tech #amazonaws Edit: Decided to stay at AWS with a D&S. OCI’s bonus is not reliable and a last moment reorg before joining had me joining a manager that I hadn’t liked during my earlier interviews.
Oracle is worse. I wouldn’t. Why not try msft?
MSFT would love to. Got hit by their hiring freeze last year.
They are hiring like crazy. Do you have a security clearance? They are desperate for decent software engineers who do.
7k units? That’s a great offer. Why would you not go? You are doubling your pay dude.
Money aside ( which is great) btw. Just not sure about OCI culture and the people. The people in my interview were great but who knows if I'd even adjust. Prolly too spoilt by AWS/Amazon - been here for 5 years and some fear of change. On the offer itself 1. No sign on 2. Annual stock ( unlike Amazon or other companies - half-yearly/quarterly/monthly vesting) 3. No refresher stock after 4 years
The only guys I know that made this move wouldn't last a year there.. my sample is small (4 L5/ L6) but tells me something I would try Microsoft again ( my dream employer tbh)
That's telling something. What happened ? Were they SDEs/SAs? Love to hear their side of the story. Same here MSFT is right there as my favorite too
All product managers (tech and non tech) I can't share many details because they will know who I am. I don't know why they left (voluntary or involuntary)
Oci is shit .. my friend is been in oci from the past 3 years and his offer is nt even increased by a dollar.. no annual bonus annual refresher policy sucks(my friend dint get any) , worst on call and people leave the company all the time
Yeah heard about that culture being tough. Is there any WLB ?
OCI used to be good 3-5 years ago. It is pretty bad now in term of refresh bonus, opportunity to grow, network, leadership. And if you have to work with Oracle HQ (most likely as OCI is huge in Oracle now), holy shit, their IC5s need handholding like new grads. It is crazy that Oracle is still in the market. Oracle HQ is so incompetent at every level, they cant find another jobs and will protect their territory at all cost, it is pretty sad actually.
I am a bit surprised at how easily they are giving out the comp. I barely had to ask for anything and they are talking about RSUs so easily, feels so alien to Amazon where it is take it or leave or if you have another offer :-)
From engineering, oci will succeed it’s just that lots of Ops work in the short run. Refreshers exist and can be larger than initial sign on but need to need good to get it (think 4/5 on annual cycle review). Smart people to work with
Op, how long did it take to get the written offer , after recruiter verbally confirmed ?
Took a while from verbal offer to written I’d say about 3 weeks. Manager personally apologized for the process being archaic
FYI- I think IC5 is Consulting Member Technical Staff which is equivalent to Director and similarly IC6 might be Architect title which maps to VP level at Oracle
Level.fyi says Amazon L6 is an IC5 there. At AWS L6s are basically nobodies - atleast in the SA org :)
L6 is ic4 most of the times
