AWS vs open source technology

Based on what I've learnt, people working in amazon products are inevitably using AWS products to develop their features. 1. Do they ever get a chance to work on all the interesting and hot opensource products out there today like kubernetes, kafka, ELK, flink, etc? 2. If not, do they end up with technical backwardness if they don't keep themselves updated outside of work? TC 150

Aws has most of the tools we need. There are hosted solution of popular open source tools on aws. If they are not available we do use open source

But do you feel like you miss out on working on those technologies directly because you already have stable product built on top or you still get to understand the underlying stuff?

Yeah, sometimes. I’ve accepted it though and that it means I get to focus on more fun problems
