Hi all, I want to hear from current and former Amazon employees. I was wondering how decent the accommodations are when it comes to Amazon work related travel for employees (specifically SAs + Sales people but others too). Given frugality principle, are you ever allowed to book decent hotel chains such as Westin/Hyatt/Fairmont etc? Or do you have to book Best Westerns? #amazon #aws #amazonaws
There is a rate guideline for each city. With that rate you could definitely get Westin/Hyatt/Marriott, ie decent ones. Often times, you could go above the rate limit provided you have a good reason such as “close to business meeting point.” But given frugality as a LP, some teams or managers would want you to travel only when necessary and require approval.
I worked in Austin and remote. In Seattle, for example, you can stay pretty much anywhere besides four seasons. Amazon isn’t as frugal as you’d think, especially when it comes to travel.
How much can you expense for meals?

Hotel selection is quite broad. I always stay somewhere nice like Hyatt.
So airfare is cheap, but hotels seem good to go!
Airfare is always economy. But they don’t force lowest and you can earn status easily.
