Customer Success Manager versus a Sales Engineer. Post vs Pre.

What do you like about either one or why do you prefer one over the other?

May as well post YOE and TC.

  • SE has more potential upside and better growth opportunities. Plus Sales + Engineering is a useful combo to master

  • csm at salesforce is supposed to be strategic but customers basically use you as an escalation vehicle which is fun for no one. Salesforce is hands down the best place to learn best practices for SEs. and the job pays well too.

  • CSM in a way is also a sales role.. depends on the company.. at Microsoft they manage org wide adoption of a Saas product life.
Also depends sales in what? Infra or saas..
I can imagine being in sales for infra makes more sense and a CSM in saas is a better option
