I've just received an offer from OCI. I'm also talking with an internal team in Amazon who want me as an internal transfer to a technical lead position under a great manager. This would result in no changes to pay, but manager believes I can get L6 promo by Q3/Q4. Both positions support fully remote work and as such will be working remotely in LCOL. Currently AWS L5 YOE: 6 Cloud Experience: 3 Current TC: 189k OCI offer: IC-3 Base: ~140k Sign-On Bonus: 20k RSUs: 7500 Year 1 TC: 261k Year 2 TC: 241k I know OCI has bad promo and raise prospects. Should I take the bump in pay or risk it for the possibility for L6 in a new team whose manager says is confident in getting me an L6 promo in the more lead role? What would you do? #aws #oci #amazon #oracle #oraclecloud
TC difference too large to let it slip. Unless you have anything else at hand. Doesn't make any sense to let this go.
How confident are you that your manager won't retaliate when you try to leave?
Above average relationship. I'm confident he won't for either choice.
Regardless of your confidence take the better deal
To me, this sounds like a clear-cut decision to stay where you are. You seem to be in an excellent place politically, and position-wise too if you're probably going to be promoted to L6 in less than a year. I doubt you'd be promoted faster than that elsewhere. The L6 TC will probably match or beat the offer you just got. Did you make a decision yet?
It was a difficult decision, but I'm taking the OCI offer for the significant TC difference.
Okay. Hope everything goes well!
