Has anyone been in a company which was acquired by Roku?
What was the transition like?
Were the generous with comp or just left things as they were?
Thanks.

I was part of a Roku acquisition in late 2019 and I’ve been here ever since. Having been through a number of acquisitions in my career, I can safely say this is one of the best I have been a part of. I work in engineering and myself and other leads were immediately flown to headquarters upon close of the deal to start the integration efforts. This was done in the open with extensive input and participation from members of the acquired company. We quickly established an aggressive roadmap that would integrate the two stacks and have never looked back. A lot of effort went into preserving a positive culture and in stamping out any “us vs them” mindset or other toxic behaviors that can sometimes develop after an acquisition.

To be clear, the pace is fast and the expectations are high, but compensation is excellent and the quality of people you get to work with is exceptional. I have consistently been given great opportunities to grow in my role here and have seen my peers offered similar opportunities regardless of whether they were from the acquired company or Roku native.

If you enjoy working on hard problems with smart people, I highly recommend joining Roku.

Hope this helps! Good luck with everything.

Great experience to be acquired by Roku in Nov 2019! Generous comp and much care taken with the transition (e.g. they let things 'settle' after the acquisition to keep managers the same and understand fit before final reorgs). Very welcoming culture and good communication throughout. Most tools were integrated in a timely manner so we could collaborate quickly and feel part of the same company. Although the bulk of this transition has been throughout the pandemic, Roku's done a tremendous job welcoming us and maintaining morale for all employees - old and new.

Part of 2019 acquisition. Great experience. The comp offered was generous. They kept everything the same and took the time to understand how and why we were structured before making any changes. Even when changes do happen non of them felt arbitrary the leadership team was very transparent re reason. It was def not a “suck the knowledge dry and throw away the husk” type of acquisition. The pace is def faster but the work had been fulfilling. Being acquired can be an anxious inducing experience but my personal journey with roku had been a positive one.

So, now that it’s all happened - how do you feel about it?

It’s a good place. Not much in the way of politics. People generally do the right thing most of the time. Total comp is exceptional. I like the fact that we don’t do performance reviews. My biggest complaints are small compared to other jobs I’ve had.
