Adobe compensation

I'm expecting a verbal offer from Adobe today. Recruiter wants to talk on phone, probably to get initial comp expectations. This is for Bay area office. I'm currently L63 at MS with 168k base, avg 15% bonus, and only 22k rsu per year). The team was very nice and they have some interesting challenges. But with more on-sites in next couple of weeks this isn't my top choice. No other outstanding offers yet. Should I even mention an amount? Does Adobe give competitive salary? Thanks.

    Update on offer details. For senior software engineer

    166k base
    400 rsu 4 yr (70k total)
    5% annual bonus

    The rsu and bonus seem really low. Also they didn't offer sign on bonus. Wondering what parts I can negotiate? Base is slightly lower than current comp. Bonus is much lower (I'm at 15-20% range)

      They raised to 180k and 900 rsu.

    Pay may vary, I came in early this year got basically what your are making, $220k total comp at that time as non senior engineer. Not the top tier, but decent.

    Working here feels similar to Microsoft. You might be making more with ESPP at Microsoft.

    I got a 12% bump plus rsus and signing bonus moving from MSFT to Adobe a couple of years ago.

    I'm thinking of asking for 180 base, 1200 rsu, and 15% annual bonus. Is that too small or too aggressive?

    • Those numbers seem optimistic to me. You could ask for more base and RSU, but bonus is the same for all.

    Being California, I think they just passed a law saying that employers could not ask about salary history. It is supposed to help with gender-based pay disparity...

      That's true. I believe that law kicks in 2018 but employer is unlikely to ask current comp. But I think they can still ask for expected comp.

    Would not recommend Ad Cloud. low base, long hours, unclear future after adobe acquisition. Lots of turnover in company since merger.

    Usually I avoid mentioning an amount but for me I'm not BSing when I say compensation is less important to me than other things like team and product

  • That's an interesting team. I think Adobe can pay competitively depending on the team, also consider the stock price doubling a couple times in the past few years and all the benefits.
