I have around 14 years of experience in software engineering, currently a senior software design / architecture engineer, I have bachelor in computer engineering and MBA, I am looking to get more into engineer management/leadership and still want to keep my end to end design and architecture skills. I am considered expert in distributed architecture and senior architect. 1- does it makes sense to do MS in Machine Learning? or just learn these skills on the side, specially if I want to get more in leadership roles? 2- Is my TC good enough for my experience and current location? TC: 262K YOE: 14 Location: Austin
1 Masters won't hurt you, but you need PhD or a LOT of effort if you want to talk to research teams in their terms. For generic "leadership" to have an idea of what's being built or to build yourself but slower, a few MOOCs are enough. 2 That's good engineer TC for Austin, but you could make more climbing the corporate ladder with that MBA and yoe.
I think your TC is top You've already proved yourself perhaps you should learn machine learning on the side and move teams if needed to get some hands on real time applications
I think a MBA in machine learning would be the best way to increase money
I already have MBA, maybe few ML courses should be good enough for management/lead?
How the hell is a masters in ML going to make you a better manager? Masters is only interesting if you want to become an SME in ML.
I am exploring ideas don't get upset 😉
My tone could have been better. I also they this s someone who went back to school and grad school in my 30s. For the most part I think there were a few key classes that helped with interviews. But otherwise I regret not trying to FANG a couple years earlier instead.
That's a very good TC for Austin. How much of that is stock options/RSUs? Generally, from what I gather, management gets better bonuses/RSUs

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
