I have been looking for a new gig since last July. Started off interviewing for general software engineer roles. Slogged my ass off preparing algorithms from leet code and system design. Interviewed at several companies from Google/FB/Amazon/Walmart and several other big and mid size companies.

However, I haven't been successful in finding one after the onsite rounds. Also, I was so frustrated that I took a vacation and went back home for a month. And now I am out of touch from interviewing for good 3 months and I lost the momentum. Don't have any more energy left to prepare algorithms etc.

I am a front-end engineer and I decided to apply specifically for front-end roles instead of general roles. Now, the fucking issue is every damn company asks different kind of front-end questions and from this year seems like many companies have switched to hackerrank assignments as the first round.

I am finding it very hard to interview now a days and losing my motivation. I am totally lost. To add to it, day to day office work is so crappy I don't feel like I am in Silicon Valley!

Can anyone guide/suggest how can I do better ?

have you considered interviewing for a startup instead of the big companies? if you have lots of experience that will count more there.

also do you know anyone who works at these big companies? ask them to help you prepare with mock interviews.

No, I don't have lots of experience. Instead of startups I would prefer companies who are public with a market cap $1B-$5B and having good growth potential. I think I don't have issues with interviewing as such. Just that I am fed up of interviewing algorithms. But thanks for the advice!

  • Not sure if you've talked to us yet, but feel free to DM me if you're interested. Might be able to streamline the process somewhat.

  • Don't lose hope. Failure is a part of success. Introspect yourself, see where can you improve, ask employers for honest feedback(some of them share a bit).

Check out gainlo if you want to try mock interviews.

I think you know what the answer is gonna be. It's hard work and luck. If you don't put in the effort to study hard, you're gonna end with what effort you put in. Simple as that.
