Dear community, my budget is $1M. household TC $300K (me+wife ). I’m in Bay Area. we’d like to buy something between SF and South Bay in a good school district. I know that we can’t buy a single family / town home with this budget. can I find a decent 2 or 3 bedroom condo? something between SF and South Bay in a good school district. unfortunately, East bay is not an option for my wife. #bayarea

You can add filters based on location, budget and school district ratings (amongst others) on redfin. Do give it a try.

The commute is rather bad though. That’s why home prices don’t appreciate like they do on the peninsula or in the South Bay. 680 was widened in the past. They’re widening it again but I can guarantee you it won’t improve. 580 is no better.
All studies show widening freeway only provided temporary traffic relief, but it soon fades.

Between SF and South Bay is very wide range. Make sure you are not going to get bad commute for both of you. If you look in these areas diligently, you should find something. Evergreen San Jose - some zip codes Milpitas Sunnyvale Redwood Shores Foster City

What can people on here tell you that browsing on Zillow cannot? And besides, you will find something for 1.2. There are even a couple houses in woodside up for less than 1.2 right now. The housing market has cooled off a little. My parents house (2300 sq ft 5br2ba in San Jose/Los Gatos area) was valued at 1.4mil a few years ago and it’s like 1.1 right now.
While I agree with your point, that valuation sounds wrong.
In what way? There’s a 2400 sqft 4b2ba in same-ish area for just over 1mil right now on Zillow. And prices have definitely gone down recently.
