Where do companies such as Microsoft, Airbnb, Uber, Dropbox, etc sit within the hierarchy of tech companies?
What about the biggest company of the world : Apple ?
😂😂😂 it’s in the title mate! F(A)NG - (Apple/Amazon)
Usually A in FANG is for Amazon. 😊
Mostly based on how much I’d want to be employed by them, not as much on business success: Tier 0: Be your own boss Tier 1: Google, Facebook, Netflix Tier 2: Apple, Airbnb, Lyft, Uber, Square, Slack, Dropbox, Reddit, Spotify, Nvidia Tier 3: Microsoft, Amazon, Yelp, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Salesforce, Zillow, Snapchat Tier 4: Cisco, Oracle, Yahoo/Verizon, SAP, Intel, Adobe, IBM, Intuit, eBay, PayPal
Your list is better than mine 😁😁
I guess I should feel lucky having worked at two of the Tier 2 and now at a tier 1
What about Tesla? Nobody is even mentioning of it.
What about tesla, haha theyre not really competitive in autonomous driving much when compared with cruise, waymo, uber, sooo many other startups doing autonomous driving. Their main product is just electric cars, i wouldnt put them up on these lists either
Yes agreed, they arent even investing much into autonomous driving. Their focus is on Electric cars and batteries and i am sure you would agree that they are way ahead of their competitors in that field. So its not fair to compare them for a field in which they are not even investing time.
I would argue that based on the pay, the technologies, attrition level, and egerness to join the company, Microsoft is a tier 4 company.
Under the new CEO, they seem to be turning it around. They still have cool products (didn’t say good) like Xbox, hololens, azure. Definitely better than Tier 4 still.
Agreed. Microsoft is and has been getting more and more terrible. Zero innovation, horrible OS, what's going on over there?
Everyone on this thread is a huge twat. You're not your company. Working for a FANG company won't make you a better person or make you happier or make your dick any longer.
Uh, Can’t tell if trolling or serious... It’s a fun innocent question. If anything, it provides insight into how people can grow careers by incrementally gaining experience in the industry and not getting too discouraged if they don’t get into FANG.
Why is Netflix considered tier 1 anyway? Purely based on pay?
Has to do w stock popularity and performance. I guess that makes it a desirable place to work?
They are interesting on Blind since they only seem to hire Senior Devs. Not that financial analysts care about that.
Have folks from FAANG tried to go work at say a tier 3 company to gain more management experience? Does your experience from a “tier 1” company give you leverage?
I’ve heard of people doing that exactly. They go to work for them as senior tech lead and transition to management within a year. Usually at Microsoft it seemed.
Me here, got a bump in level and lead / manage people after leaving Amazon. Had to take a paycut first but eventually get to a higher pay. The plan is to boomerang between FANG and lower tier to level up faster, make money fast along the way.
Microsoft loves when Googlers come a'knocking on its door. They attribute it to the company being hip again. It makes Satya sleep well at night, even if the ratio of people leaving to Google to those coming from Google is 10^9 : 1
Is apple a tier 1?

Go woke, go broke: Google fires 28 employees involved in pro-Hamas protest
I’ll take a stab (tomatoes being thrown) Tier 1: FANG Tier 2: Uber, Airbnb, Dropbox, Microsoft, Adobe, Spotify Tier 3: LinkedIn, Twitter, Lyft, Snapchat, Yelp, Pinterest *edit - scroll to “Yahoo • LiamNam” for a better list.
What about Square?
Dropbox Adobe Spotify would be lower tier then the rest in tier 2. Similarly Yelp will be lower than rest in tier 3
