Can someone tell me why the Airbnb app and website are so slow? Does anyone have tips to make it speed up? Is iOS faster? I often have to use Chrome mobile browser just to check things because it loads about twice as fast but still terrible. 30 seconds to load and 80% time out rate They don't offer API access unless you have 500 listings. Any tips would be very helpful.
It's gotta be old tech that can't scale with the fast growth doesn't it? Or perhaps it only affect power hosts with multiple listings?
Probably yes, to both
I work at Airbnb Infra and I know reasons.
Nice. What are the reasons? It's also so slow for me
You should work for vaguebook
That damn home page has so much crap. Airbnb site is too busy.
A bunch of monkeys are screening each listing for legitimacy and compliance with anti-party rules before they show them to you!
Until couple years ago, Airbnb was a giant Rails CRUD app with no caching and no parallel/async operations. In the past couple years, there have been several migrations and refactoring to make the backend a lot faster by moving to micro services, parallel/async operations, and smarter caching, but about 1/3 of the backend is still in the Rails CRUD world... This means even if many features were optimized from full seconds to tens of milliseconds, it’s still being held back by the remaining third...
Biggest painpoint I have with this site! Can’t agree more.
Makes you wonder what the point of paying high TC is if they can’t even get things to load properly 😰
Don’t spill the secret
Correction: High TC at pre-IPO* price. Ask me. I know.
