Airbnb data science 🤮
I’ve been at Airbnb for a few years now and I have to say the quality of our technical teams (particularly data science) is quickly declining. Almost all of our v senior data science leaders have left ( Ronny, etc. ) and we are not rlly valued by management for more than our ability to write SQL and confirm what they already are believing to be true. We’re “design driven” and in the last year that has begun to mean that we don’t use DS to make decisions. We use our CEOs intuition. Are all companies like this? What are the best companies for data science?

Sounds like yet another case of data science teams being downgraded to analyst/SQL jockey. As a BI Analyst I would love to get the DS title to do the same things with much higher pay.
Move to SW
Lot of companies like this. It is what it is. Analytics is a field where you just do your job and get paid and be happy. if you want to actually have impact, gotta go SWE
DS for the most prt is becoming product + SQL + A/B testing
I see some Airbnb guy spending lot of time on LinkedIn .. seems true..

I would rather ask which companies are truly data driven. Analytics is often just "get numbers to make a case", or "run an ab test and debug why the test is not how I want it to be".
Does Airbnb still pay top of market for DS?
