Booked a host which cancelled (week after bookong) and said it was due to Airbnb engineers not having a calendar sync in place and Airbnb ended up cancelling the reservation... $400k TC engineers can’t make a calendar sync with other sites?? Freaking Fandango does this with movie tickets bought elsewhere in reserved seating... Now just rebooked with ‘superhost’ and got cancelled again... what kind of garbage product is this that they allow ‘super hosts’ to do this?? What kind of reimbursement should I demand from Airbnb?? They pay cost differential of any other place available for my dates seem reasonable. And for the SWE in blind - do you guys actually have engineering problems with calendar sync!?!
Your single poor experience doesn’t mean the entire company is going downhill. The title on this post is exceptionally rich.
True, but have seen from many others they have recently been experiencing these kind of issues compared to Homeaway / VRBO. I’m saying from an Eng perspective the calendar sync is downright pathetic. From a customer / business perspective having these titles of “superhost” but not giving them any consequences is questionable. I am trying to draw people here who have seen similar experiences and what their results were along with knowing their perspective. I also want employees to comment as well on their thoughts if they see similar patterns If you have no input please remove yourself from the channel.
No I will not remove myself. You should request the feature be implemented, rather than complain about it. They have engineers making 400k clearly they have competent staff. Your title is so loosely associated with any discussion you’re looking to achieve regarding features baked into the platform. If you title your post “Airbnb going downhill” expect discussion about Airbnb going downhill or people who disagree with the thought.
FYI. Usually they either help you find another airbnb of equivalent value, or pay for your hotel in the nearby region. You do need to call them to negotiate that though. But FYI
Thanks for the tips - there is nothing equivalent with regards to location and size. I know eventually I will need to call them as I’m looking for as much info as I can find before negotiations!
I don’t think they pay for your hotel. They can help you find Airbnb of similar value but close to the date they are all very expensive. TBH, the Airbnb customer service a joke too.
I've had horrific experiences with Airbnb too...
I have been in this situation more than once — last time, Airbnb gave me a $200 credit
And yes, this seems like one of Airbnb’s biggest gaps. Airbnb’s are more interesting, but hotels are more reliable. Airbnb knows this so they should definitely compensate
That’s the credit they offered after the first booking where their engineering messed up the issue, and we used it towards another reservation with ‘superhost’ status. Haven’t gotten around to the exact cause of this cancellation, but there is literally nothing left for our size / location :(
Use airbnb plus if you want a more hotel like experience. Someone does a 100 point inspection on the listing in person and the host has to be below a certain cancelation threshold in order to qualify. We are also onboarding thousands of boutique hotels that you can try. Sorry you had a poor experience OP.
Usually airbnb plus are more expensive than comparable hotel options. Personally, i’ve stopped using airbnb and went back to hotels. My experience is so much more consistent with hotel chains. Plus I have 100% free cancellation 24 hour before checkin most of the time
So you reinvented a hotel. Got it. Hotels > diy rentals.
Just use regular hotels. Airbnb is trying to disrupt the hotel industry by providing a worse experience. This is very different from Uber who is trying to disrupt taxis by providing a better experience.

will they comp your loss?
Will keep the post updated - obviously we will not have any charges but the concern is how are we supposed to find a place after being cancelled on twice with such little time left when we have people coming all over the country
