Airbnb is a great lesson for founders
First dont worry the people who started Airbnb are rich. theyll be fine. the rank and file are screwed. This company completely missed their exit window. Its a wework in poor timing. A shame. Nice website. The C19 crisis will give birth to airbnbs replacement. Remember founders timing always matters. Lets press F for anyone holding RSUs issued post 2017 for Airbnb.
Airbnb will be just fine imo. They’re sitting on plenty of cash to carry them through this.
Airbnb’s valuation was speculation. Actuals make it Expedia. Expedia’s market cap is $7.5B. Airbnb is over valued. As such new RSU holders are quite fucked. As a founder. Speculative value raises exit premium and actuals decrease it. We are in actual mode.
Not disagreeing with the overvaluation, but I don’t see them getting ‘replaced’ that easy due to a rough patch. Pretty much all of their competitors are crashing down also rn

Businesses get less competition during recession, not more. Margin pressure keep people from jumping into the business.
Do startups worry about momentary margin pressure? It’ll be a good time to enter the market after this all is gone, as we’ll see demand ticking back up. The challenge will be to build a global marketplace with solid amount of supply already vetted and evaluated by users.
I like this post OP, thanks for making it. Happy to see at least a few people on Blind recognize the bubble that is Airbnb and Silicon Valley. Btw, their website is garbage. The UI is as clunky as Material Design 1.0
I was asked LC medium and Hard in 45 mins phone screen. If I interview candidate from Airbnb in next few months ( very likely) I would ask LC easy. Peace ✌️
