They will get this good karma back for sure.
This is mainly to stop the massive host exodus after they forced them to offer 100% refunds regardless of their cancellation policy. On the bright side, they were able to lobby the government to give them a huge bailout in the form of unemployment for their hosts (likely billions of dollars) that they refused to consider as employees.
Airb is fucked. Whole business model - poof.
How many companies do you find where employees go to such extent for the aid of the company and its customers?
Customer obsession 😂 Looks like you switched from Amazon :p
Cult. Scam. MLM. 🤡
For those who were too lazy to read the article: employee contribution only $1M across the entirety of Airbnb, an average of ~$80 per employee. Honestly a super trivial amount, given the compensation.
Each donation was 500 dollars
Not all of our employees are software engineers. Our business is offline and online. Customer support people make very little I’m sure for example. ~2000 people donated $500. There was no choice of a partial or more donation, but they will be adding other ways for us to give to hosts we care about.
WTF. Why are we contributing $250 million for the hosts? This is so messed up!
LOL - f*ck supporting the people who make y'all money.
Airbnb. Classic case of missed exit window. Other founders take note. The game in startups is to build and exit. Whenever Airbnb exits now it will be at significantly diminished valuation.
👏 props to everyone at Airbnb who donated their Airbnb credit to hosts. Brian Chesky is a clear leader in doing the right thing. Airbnb will burn through funds faster and may even have to lay off employees, and that would be a sad and unfortunate situation. But if and when that happens, the world will know that Airbnb did right by those suffering the most during this crisis. In the unlikely future that Airbnb the company goes under, the talented folks that comprise Airbnb will go on to do more great things.
We get travel credit, employees volunteered to donate it. Also regardless of the situation it's a good thing that Airbnb set aside funds for hosts. Don't think many companies would have done it. Personally I'm proud of the company Edit: I know a lot ppl might be taking pleasure in the tough situation that Airbnb is. Most of whom could not make it tryna comfort themselves. I would like to point out that Airbnb will exist after this, there maybe layoff, I may get laid off but the company will survive this pandemic. Cheers!
Yes, let’s all sacrifice ourselves for The Company.
What are you sacrificing? It's a pandemic most other travel companies have already laid off. Get another job and save yourself if you are worried
