@AT&T I’m sorry but no one here has said “all the women engineers I know are as good or better than the guys!” This is a red herring, and the fact that you are pushing a logical fallacy explains why the rest of your post is wrong. It also makes you sound insecure about women.

It is untrue that women are not interested in engineering. There was a time where being a programmer was considered work “suitable” for women. If you have a real CS degree, then you should already know that women were pioneers in CS. It has less to do with interest than it is with getting support.

I’m all for increasing the number of talented women in tech by any means other than quotas (which aren’t legal anyway). Having worked with a number of less than competent colleagues who are men, making sure the bar keeps them out and encourages others to come in is a good thing.

“If you have a problem with them being held to the same expectations as everyone else, I’d even say you’re infantilizing them.” Dude, no one has a problem with women being held to the same expectations. The problem is that they aren’t, that people like you assume that talented women and other underrepresented people being overlooked is because they don’t meet your bar, and that diversity efforts are all about lowering the bar. That’s BS.

What’s stopping women from applying to more STEM programs? Different programs have different GPA requirements but women actually have an advantage in school performance - on average, their grades are higher. It’s literally there for the choosing.

I feel that exactly as many are enrolled in CS/tech as want to be. Not sure why we need to “push” anything.

This is 100% false. Airbnb has diversity initiatives just like everywhere else, but does not have quotas.

Hard hiring quota for underrepresented groups to meet political correctness requirements ❌
Free education and scholarship for them ✔️

Sadly the latter cannot tame angry NYT journalists

The second is not right either.
If you're Asian or White male -> pocket out 200k for an engineering degree or get a loan.
If you're URM or female -> get free education and scholarship for them.

If true, people will be given free positions in the company because they don’t have a penis.

Basically 40% of your company will be way below the bar in terms of skill based hiring standards.

      Terrible idea.

I had to go re-read the internal email from Ari. Literally copy pasta:

“However, to be clear, while we will take aggressive steps to improve the diversity of our pipelines and remove bias from our processes, we cannot and will not make hiring or promotion decisions based on gender or race.”

@bazooka you have been agitating about this topic for at least two weeks and surfacing rumors without any supporting documentation. What is your game?

No major company would introduce quotas and put themselves in such a vulnerable position for lawsuit.

About time. If there is a quota for greencard for every country, ans its supposed to be logical then why not this. Let's make quota for each cross section of society and every firm has to fulfill that quota. That would make society progress. #illogicalLogic

As a citizen of foreign country you're not entitled for entry/job/green card or citizenship. Independent country/nation has the right to form its immigration policy.
