Airbnb onsite coding round

How are the laptop coding rounds at Airbnb evaluated? Recently I did onsite at Airbnb and I took my laptop. I was planning to use some code snippets I had prepared before-hand but the interviewer was staring at my screen, so I felt very uncomfortable and I think I made myself look foolish by googling some basic libraries. Eventually I wasted lot of time going back and forth and showed some panic. The approach was right and I finally wrote a working solution. Does my panic mode during coding impact the result? I would guess so, but I read Airbnb looks only at final working solution. TC: 220k. YOE: 6

I’m afraid I can’t help with your direct question, but I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable googling libraries and basic APIs during a coding interview in the future. “I can’t remember if the function I’m looking for is called padLeft or padStart. Let me take a quick look. Oh it’s padStart so let’s use that”. I’d care more about how long it takes you to find the answer basic questions than what you had to Google in the first place. Especially if you preface it with a list of ideas but wanting to double check. Disclaimer: I don’t interview at Airbnb since I only just joined. I have conducted hundreds of interviews elsewhere however.

Thanks. That’s helpful. In the meantime, fingers crossed

Are coding interviews there done on a laptop and not on a whiteboard?
