Trying to pick a company for my next three years. No concrete number yet but I got some inside from my friends. Just trying to see which company is better. Airbnb: base 170K-190K, going IPO likely on 2020-2021. The teams are more product oriented. Doesn’t look very exciting to me. Snap: base around 190K if the “Senior SDE” title mentioned by the HR is actually L4. Otherwise around 160. The team is Ok but I don’t really believe in their camera company business model. The money is appealing and I thought the stock price cannot be lower? Pinterest: base around 160. It’s the Ads team which matches my current skill set. I kind of like the team. Going IPO this year. Uber: base no more than 150 I think. Marketplace and I do like the team. Going IPO this year. But the pay really bad comparing to other offers.
In my opinion Airbnb > Uber > Pinterest
I think Airbnb has some interesting teams, although Uber probably has more
Airbnb most likely has the best talent... Only issue is that the problems they're solving isn't that interesting. You can only make temporary apartment living so interesting and complex.
I would agree. And they do the team match after you join so I am a bit concerned.
You can always ask your recruiter to put you in touch with managers of teams in areas you are interested in. We do have many interesting teams believe it or not. You can pre-allocate if you want and managers are more than happy to meet you on site. Airbnb's offer will be much better than Uber and have more cash than Pinterest. Snap offer will beat everything.
thats exactly the case! Thanks for the advice and I am trying to get in touch with some teams. Do you know any team that is focused on scaling problem? I guess the home team when calculating the dynamic prices?
Payments definitely deals with scaling problems. They also have big data and ML teams if you're into that. There is also lots of juicy backend Java work there. Payments is great because every tech company has to have some sort of payments backend so the knowledge is pretty transferable. We support more currencies than paypal. You will definitely get some good experience there.
Could you explain ‘teams are more product oriented’ a bit more? Is that a negative to you?
Go to Oath.
really?
What do you think?
