Super conflicted here. Newly promoted Sr SDE at Amazon, got an offer from a (unicorn) fintech company that consistently gets very high reviews from its employees. I can't help but feel that the offer isn't worth it due to the comp package they are offering. They're only offering me 20k (claiming because it's a MCOL) more than I currently make and while I could make a killing off of the stock options if the company continues to do well, I can't help but feel like I should be able to get more TC when switching companies. I have already tried negotiating with them multiple times but the offer is firm. Am I an idiot for turning it down since I am still happy with Amazon and enjoy what I'm working on? I know Amazon gets a lot of hate but they've never done wrong by me yet. So tough to know what is best for my career right now.

Always assume that any equity a pre IPO startup gives you is toilet paper.
