I work for Neustar. R&D data science team. Manager level but IC. Home office in LA but 100% remote work is allowed. 3.5 YOE with MS Statistics from top 3 program. I program in R, Python, SQL, work on product management and product development, lead technical projects, build data visualizations and ML models. TC $150K. Am I underpaid? I keep seeing TC in the range of 300K-600K for various positions at larger tech companies. Sometimes for DS, sometimes not clear. I’d like TC in that range.
yes I make 630k
What level are you at @Shrimpguy?
3.5 years, not FANG? Maybe you should use as comparison points, similar factors. DS is broad and not consistently defined, and the top paying IC roles for DS are often building ML. With the current YOE, it takes more experience to get the top paying jobs. You should not expect 600k in that time.
No you are not underpaid as you are not working for FANG. If you are working for FANG and paid like that, then you are underpaid. First get in FANG.
OP , what school did u go to ?
No you are paid correctly. You are not FAANG. You are in LA with 100% remote. You are DS with no PhD. If anything, you're paid slightly more than what I would've expected. Most of the high TC you see are FAANG + Bay Area + stocks.
Not necessary to be in FANG - a lot other companies pay close. Your YOE is relatively less to get comp in that range. With YOE and good learning, you will get there with or w/o FANG
300-600K with 3.5 YOE at a no name company in LA... No.
Such arrogance from faangs here..
Just read posts on blind regarding Neustar and yes you are right, the arrogance is brazen. The security BU of Neustar is pretty top notch (not knowledgeable about the others) and now they’re their own company which is great.
All I read was "I work for <some no-name company that's not FANG>." If you want 300-600k, go to FANG.
