I took an absence of working in my profession (Graphic Design) to build my leadership and professional skills. I’ve acquired the skills now and I’m trying to get back in the design world by applying for junior roles, but my supervisors at my agencies say I’m Art Director level and some say Creative Director level, but I never managed a team before. My portfolio showcases UI/UX, Photography, Social Media Design (Static Design and Animation), and 360 Marketing Campaign. Should I be going for the high roles (Art Director, Creative Director) even though I don’t have the experience and I’ve been out of my profession for a year? #jobhunt #forhire #nyc
If you were a leader, wouldn't over thinking this or be relying on the opinions of strangers. Get a mentor, start working towards your goals
You’re right
If someone is telling you that you can do it, believe in yourself and fake it till you make it. Look to others for help when you need it. Don't sell yourself short.
🙏🙏
If you’re having trouble deciding between junior level and leadership roles, you probably do not belong in leadership.
Not afraid of the leader roles, only thought about the junior roles to get my feet wet back into the industry. I been doing freelance work while working outside of being an in-house designer. Been working and depending on myself for so long, thought a junior role would be good to start with. Or go straight into the leader roles and get acquainted as I go.

How did you acquire the leadership skill s? And how long was your absence period?
I been out of the design world for a year, but I’ve been working on projects in the meantime. I was moved to a role at Postmates where I had constantly communicate to multiple departments and teach them the importance of how things had to be done in order to make sure work gets done. I know how to type emails better and more professionally, Public speaking is somewhat exciting now because I people make mistakes and I have to address them. I’m more assertive now but I still hold onto empathy to be understanding of others.
My last job was a Designer and Photographer for a Digital Agency that dealt with E-Commerce. I created ads and did photo shoots with models to help brands grow with sales and build an audience on social media.
