Got a Masters in Computer Science in May and took the first job that was offered at $80k + benefits. My job role is Data Analyst for now. I also competed Data Scientist Nanodegree from Udacity. However, companies are looking for experience in Data Science. Having trouble getting associate Data scientist roles. Am I underpaid? How to get into data science positions? #salaries #salarycomparison #dataanalyst
You have no experience. Any job to build up your experience is a good job. Don't think about TC too much at this point of your career, and don't let the TC trolls on blind influence you. If you worry about TC, then keep interviewing so you know your market value.
TC trolls
80k in Atlanta.. not bad; it's realistic. Like the previous post said don't let TC drive you, focus on building skills. Check out akamai we are hiring in Atlanta.
Even guys having MS in Data Science are finding it difficult to get Data Science roles. I always think about TC, high TC means you are valuable to the organisation and working on latest tech. Capitalism 101!
I disagree that high TC automatically means you are valuable to an organization. There are plenty of individuals who are woefully unqualified, but receive a high TC. Let’s also not forget about nepotism.
I worked at a company where they automatically interned you if your parents were director and above... The number of privileged kids who didn't even bother sitting at their desk (at any point in the day, literally came in dropped their stuff, didn't sit and would just leave until end of day)... A lot of them after they became full timers after college... No idea what they do
Atlanta Georgia. That is where I live too. $80,000 is a lot of money down here. Which area, op? Or are you in the city. Fact: you are not going to make $100,000+ straight outta college in a city of low COL like Atlanta
Yeah, I guess the intial offer was good for a first job and that's why I took it. I have around 2 years of experience now and looking for a change.
We are the in similar situation. I have a master and fresh out college. I am making 63k+ in Cincinnati, OH. Just trying to build up my skill and experience for now.
With Tata, forget it
Haha. I just joined in Tata. It sounds like that Tata doesn't have a good reputation in Tech.
$80k is great for a first job. Question, were they impressed with the Nanodegree from Udacity?
I started certification course around 6 months after I got the job.
80k in CA: ehh. 80k in GA: pretty good good as a first gig, even if it's a MS
2 yrs exp 120k in atl
Job role?
Are u manager or dev ?
A comp sci degree and doing an easy job like data scientist. Don't ask why you are underpaid when you choose an easy job
I don't think you understood my question right.. I asked was I underpaid and not why I was underpaid. May be you should learn to pay attention in reading the question. It's not that hard to understand. Also I am a Data analyst right now and not Data Scientist. Again, READ THE QUESTION.. It's easy, just like my job😉
Your jobs easier. Quiter
Where in the world do you work? That affects salaries.
I work in Atlanta, Georgia.
