VP of Product at pre series A startup TC 100k 1% equity (4 year vest) At will what should TC be? what should equity be? is employment agreement standard at this stage?
Location?
Dallas
It's all in where you live. For Bay Area hell yeah but if you live in the country, you are balling.
1% is too low for that TC and the position
What should it be?
Tbh I wouldn’t know. I guess a reference point is that my friend with 4 YOE but as a dev says he wants at least 150k and 2% equity for him to leave his current company. He is really talented, but it seems like you have a lot of years as well as leadership experience so I’d imagine a lot more TC than what my friend demands
Yeah, I moved from SF so was willing to take lower comp but it seemed too low for the role. What do you think equity and TC should be?
You are not underpaid, it literally means you are paying out of your pocket n wasting your life for A.
Yes, too low. Negotiate a severance as well. VP Sales startup is the shortest tenured role in the org
Here’s a link for VP base in Dallas https://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=&job=VICE+PRESIDENT&city=DALLAS&year=2019 And another for PM in Dallas. https://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=&job=Product+Manager&city=DALLAS&year=2019 You can cross reference this with Bay Area data to figure out adjustment for location. Hopefully this helps.
Check on angellist, you’ll see good comps there.
TC is super low.. I am not sure if LC can help at 18 YOE

Base is low. YOE? What’s the company’s valuation?
18 YOE 2 past exits 15MM is current valuation
Huh... Base seems low. Location counts though... I guess it’s a risk based on future valuation.
