Currently working at Postmates with 140k base and around 40k worth of stocks over four years. These are 40k worth of stock options I get to purchase so I hope they mean something when the company gets bought or goes IPO. Role: backend engineer Base: 140k Stocks: 40k worth of options Yoe: 2.5 Lvl SDE 1 (SDE2 previous job before joining about six months ago) Reading TCs of people working in big companies I can only think I am not paid enough. I do have recruiters reach out to me from the big name companies but due to visa processing issues I have to stick to my current job for a while.

Underpaid or overpaid has nothing to do with your yoe but your abilities. Otherwise every mediocre programmer stuck in their level for 20-30 years would be severely underpaid.
Well I'm not going to spend time in convincing anyone that I am a good engineer. Your statement is valid.
It’s actually a combination of both. Think about it. You could be a genius but if you have less than one year of experience you’re gonna make less than someone with five years.
Your salary is in the band for your level. 140k is actually higher than what SDE1’s band. You see a lot of people on Blind making a ton, that’s due to RSU and refreshers, which usually is not a thing in startups.
Dafuq in making 145k in liquid comp and I have 0 years experience. Come to Amazon! It’s easy
😢
This is honestly surprising I used to want to work at postmates so bad but I never got an interview. Come to Amazon, seriously. It’s the easiest big name to get an offer at and you could maybe uplevel and make a bunch more liquid money.
Also keep in mind, the audience on Blind does not represent the average for software. It’s far more select and the people on here tend to be far more driven to make a lot than everyone else
And the majority of people lie about TC. At Amazon TC doesn't mean cash in hand. It includes the value of unvested stock which isn't money in your actual hands for 2 years
Absolutely means cash in hand. In first 2 years you get same in cash since stocks aren't vesting.
Dude 140k base is pretty high for sde 1. Be proud of yourself.
Thank you for being positive and uplifting. While it's high. It's also my total comp after 2.5 years and comparing to what I see on levels fyi and other posts. I think I can do better.
Well u can’t just compare everything to fang ;)
Sorry for you. Do you get food stamps?
Blind stands on the pillars of shaming people earning less. Which includes everyone.
