The one key thing I learned after leaving and spending some time looking plus hoping to relocate is that a Product Manager is 'mostly' indignant to the valley bay area. If you are ever looking outside it can be hard for other companies to understand what your last role and responsibilities were . its all good locally though.
Most product manager had marketing and/or mba backgrounds, though I found the role more like a mix of program management and project management with deep product knowledge . If Its a real product management you will have direct revenue responsibility and recognition . Look for that.
Interview process varies company to company.
