I'm supposed to do a new grad onsite with Amazon in a few days, but I actually have one more semester left to graduate. I'll also be doing an internship in the summer. If I do well and get offer, can I ask to be downgraded to an intern for fall 2020?
Shouldn't you ask this kind of questions to the recruiter or hiring manager?
Seems he is afraid of outcomes and wants to dig into possibilities before attempting it
Yeah, what Apple said.
Amazon has different starting dates for new grad... It’s not a big deal as long as within 1 year iirc.
In the new grad FAQ, there were specific instructions about it. It mentioned that they will consider transferring people as an intern if they are not graduated by offer start date. You'll probably get the same information when ( if ) you get a new grad offer. So for now, ride the onsite as if you're on schedule to graduate.

Of course, just don’t tell them to downgrade. Say as if you could start as intern transitioning to new grad. Of course they know what it is but you gotta position yourself accordingly.
Ok. Thanks.
