It's decent. Most teams work 35 hours per week most of the year.
You should be more specific. Which department are you talking about, and what position? I hear engineers work long hours.
Technology - AWS. I would expect the hours to be ridiculous. Is the overall compensation worth the time out in. If I want to kill myself I'd rather stay 1099 and remain a consultant.
I have worked as an SDE in AWS for 5+ years. Worked ~40 hour weeks the whole time, aside from the 2-3 weeks/year of crunch time. Pro tip for any job: feel like you're working too much? Go home, get some rest. Any company will take all they can get. Amazon is no exception.
When I was there a few years ago it sucked bad. As a manager I was easily in the upper 70's a week
There is none, I experienced this first hand, they will squeeze every second out of you that you are willing to give them Beware.......
willing being the operative word... from what I've seen, no one gets punished for working 40hrs
depends entirely on team. I work 7 hrs a day, 0 on-call so far, low stress. amazon is a huge company so every org and even teams within orgs can vary drastically
What org/team do you work in?
Usually get to work around 10 and head out around 4:30. Depends how much work there is at the time.
What does the compensation look like for an SME working out of New Jersey?
Amazon has thousands of teams, there's a lot of variance across them. Do your homework before you commit to one. I personally have been holding steady at 40 hrs per week
8:50-5ish. Don't open computer on weekends unless on-call.
So my biggest concern before starting Amazon was the work life balance...even the recruiter said "most people work 40-48 hr weeks". Once I got here I realized that most people are "working" ~35hr weeks, not including the people who are doing on call support after hours.
