Recently was reached out by an AWS recruiter for a Lvl 5 Systems Engineer position on the East Coast, I received an offer, but turned it down to stay with my current company in a Low Cost of living area with a high salary. We are happy here since have a young child, and family nearby to help. Original offer after counter for 1st year was TOC 245k including cleared bonus. They've since offered Seattle which my wife is more open too, but how much higher could I conceivably go considering I already let them down easy originally? My primary goal if I take the offer is to maybe do a year or two in Seattle, and stash away a bunch of cash for my kids college. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? and what's the best way to leverage it? Does anyone know the salary range for a Cleared Level 5 Systems Engineer with 10 YOEs.
If they offer Seattle then the offer should change drastically. $245k TC is decent but probably not worth it. It’s a pretty high CoL area
Depends, he mentions having a clearance. If the first offer was in the DC area it's no cheaper than Seattle.
As far as I know the cap for L5 SDEs at Amazon is ~250k. Not sure about Systems engineer, but my guess is it should be around that range
Moving with kids to a place where you have no family support to help out with kids is really hard.
Ask for ~350K. Tell them you are worth it.
Then he get gets pipped when he isn’t.
Dude you're at Boeing. That might not be a good fit for you. Boeing culture is the exact opposite of Amzn. They move very fast and won't hold your hand. Good Luck
If you search Blind for L5, SDEs max out at around $250k so you probably won’t get more as an SE. Seattle is crazy expensive also.
LOL @ Seattle is crazy expensive.
Your answer should be “Make it rain.”
Don’t settle for anything less than 300K
