Can anyone from Amazon provide insights on how to prepare for onsite interview? Current TC: 155k YoE: 2 years
Officially all Amazon hire for the same bar and so we are not allowed to have competing offers between teams. Also Bar Raisers are used cross organizations and so for Alexa interview, it is likely you get a BR from a diff org. Now all onsite are typically 2 technical, 1 behaviour and 1 design. There are exceptions where when multiple teams want to have a shared loop then that will increase to 5 or 6 rounds. Formally each round has a behavioural part based on LP and a technical part. To prepare, think of stories that would back up those LPs. You will get asked “tell me about a time _______”. Answer in the format of STAR or SBI which stand for Situation, Task, Action Result; Situation, behaviour, Impact. For tech round just practice leetcode medium and easy. Don’t forget to actually try to solve the problem. Always ask for clarification, come up with test cases and able to write and follow your own code. Is this for L5?
These are really good insights. So this is for Software Developer Engineer role. I am not sure if it’s L5, cause I only have 2 years of experience. So far I’ve been preparing leetcode and system design. I am also planning on going through OOP design questions. I have also went through the Amazon’s LP but I am going to have to prepare more on that front. In a sense, I have to think about situations I’ve been through and drafting them in STAR or SBI format. If I remember correctly, my technical phone interview had same behavioral questions and coding questions. I just tried to be genuine and drafted my answer in STAR format while on call. Thank you for the response and detailed insights.
NP! Best of luck! Even if you don’t end up doing a great job at STAR format, it’s okay. The interviewer is trained extracting info. Just focus on the story. If you miss the result for example, the interviewer will ask you for it. Typically only L5 have system design but you should still have good OO practice. So try your best there.
Seattle?
Yes Seattle. Have any insights?
