Hi, I'm interviewing for SDE2 role at Amazon in Toronto. They asked for my salary expectations, but I'm from UK, so I don't really know the salary ranges in Canada, and Glassdoor data never seemed really reliable to me. As far as I know, US band for SDE2 is around 180-240k USD, but people are saying that even 160k CAD is really good pay in Toronto in tech, which seems like a crazy difference, considering higher taxes and same cost of living. Does anyone know the SDE2 band in Canada? Or at least an estimation? Thank you.
New grad hires in Seattle make more than SDE2 in Toronto. If you are already moving and dont care to where and money matters most, steer clear of Canada. I'm SDE2 in Canada and my comp target is slightly over 200k CAD. I assume I'm near top of the band.
Interesting, thank you. They already asked me like five times, so at first I told them 210k, then 170k (because of what I've read here and on Glassdoor), and then I declined to answer until we're at the end of the process. So I possibly lowballed myself with the 170k? I'd love to go to US, but I never get callback for US positions, only for EU and Canada. I guess the H1B hassle is not worth it for them.
The best you can do is negotiate a good offer and move to Seattle in a year.
Correct H1b has really become an issue specially since Trump's Administration
It makes me sad, living in US is my dream. Too bad I'll have to spend 2+ years in some "overlay country".
Could be worse, you could try to live in Mexico and get the L1 visa from there lol
As a nonimmigrant you'll have better peaceful life in Canada. You can always come to US after a few years with canada PR.
Need Canadian passport for TN. PR won't cut it. So 5 year wait period ;)
If I'm not worng for PR, I think u need to be in canada for 2 or 3 years and can work outside canada for reset of period.
I see lot of answers related to PR and L1 Visa. I moved to Seattle on L1 Visa with Amazon. If you work in Canada, you can move to Seattle after 1 year. If you are not Indian or Chinese citizen, you will get Green Card in US pretty quick (couple of years). If you are Indian citizen, your best bet is to move to a manager role and move to Seattle on L1A Visa. Do some research regarding L1A vs L1B.
Hey so what did you finally get?
What did you get finally?
Any idea how much people get when moving from India to Canada?

I can tell you that salary in Canada has a crazy difference from that is the USA.
Man, that sucks. And it seems to me that FAAMG doesn't really like getting new hires on H1B.
Wait 5 years and get the pr.
