Amazon Detroit

Does anyone work at the Amazon Detroit office? A recuriter contacted me for some open positions there. I was particulalry interested what the work/life balance is like. I’ve read some negative posts about working at Amazon in general. I don’t mind working 50hr weeks consistently, but more than that would be a bit excessive for me.

According to Glassdoor, you dont get a 401k match until you’ve worked there 3 years?

Lol Detroit is probably the most depressing place I’ve been to in my life. My wife is from a suburb outside of Detroit and she says that she hated growing up there and only tolerated it because of the people she was around.

Don't know when you visited, but as of the last few years, Detroit is actually awesome! There is so much to do in the city and surrounding suburbs. You're wife may have a predisposition, based on her feelings of the place from childhood, but it is very different now, and most would agree. Oakland County, MI (metro Detroit area) is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation. Lots of things to do (i.e. places to spend money) as a result.

Yeah, I went last year and earlier this year. My wife lives on the Canton/Ann Arbor border and in a pretty wealthy area. We went all over Wayne and Oakland county and it’s pretty boring imo, I am also comparing it to Seattle and California so I guess that is an unfair comparison.
