Is the forced attrition per team? I am mew to Amazon amd I have read lot of posts about PIP. My team is in Consumer Org and it just has 5 team members under my manager. Do managers have to PIP from their team or the org? If so then does it mean every year 1 member in my team has to be PIPed and a mew member has to join? I read posts that even if employees perform well, they are put on PIP as managers have a quota. TC: 265k YoE: 2.75
So demoralizing. If the percentage is more than maybe 5%, people will view their teammates as competitors and many will work at burnout paces. Both mean reduced productivity.
To be honest, PIP at amazon is not as worst as it is projected on Blind! If you are doing what’s expected of your role and level, you are good and need not worry!
Thank you. Yeah, I read posts on blind and am petrified. I just want to deliver the work in an efficient way without getting involved in politics. I am not even expecting promotion. I could switch later in future if I feel like I am paid less. But I am being paid well and I am happy with that for the next 4 years. Also is it team level PIP or org level? Cause my team is really small and has only 5 people in it.
PIP is more of an org level. At team level, if a team is not productive enough to earn business it is just dissolved with folks forced to search for new teams. But still I would repeat, do your assigned tasks, meet deadlines, avoid getting involved in politics, be on good terms with your co-workers and manager and you should be good!
What do the people you know who have stayed at Amazon have to say about it?
I know someone who has been at Amazon for maybe 23 years. He says that if you find the right projects it is ok.

How important is a promotion at this job?
As I understand it, it's per org more than anything, though some managers seem to make this a part of their year-to-year
Wait if it is per org then it makes sense. Because each org has many engineers. If it is per team, then small teams or even bigger teams would try to backstab each other right? I mean, there’s not going to be any teamwork. It is just hunger games. I am confused because, does it mean that one person has to leave my team always? How does the review work? Is it your work performance or your teammates reviews? I read something like your teammates will give you a review. Doesn’t it mean they would give you bad review on purpose?
Teammates reviews are worthless, what really matters is the managers' perceived notion of what you do as they discuss this every quarter and based on this compensation or even PIP are based. Aside from that, managers can take you to a PIP at virtually any point based on your performance.
