Amazon Front End Engineer interview process

I’ve got a phone interview with Amazon soon. Not quite sure what to expect. I’ve got through to final round for front end at both Citadel and Twitter, neither featured much leetcode style questions. Mainly wondering if Amazon will be the same or if I should brush up? I guess since even Citadel didn’t care too much about it Amazon won’t, but you never know. Anyone gone through the FEE interview process? What was it like?

I went through the final round with Amazon for FEE a few weeks ago. I was crushing the interview until the conding round where they asked me a Leetcode hard that had to be solved with DP. I did not get an offer. Ask your recruiter what to expect.

DP? Also unfortunately my recruiter isn’t being very helpful. I asked this and his response was literally just “maybe, maybe not :)” and then told me to prepare for all scenarios

Dynamic programming, look it up, it comes up sometimes during interviews. Also, that just sounds like a terrible recruiter.

LC questions are definitely asked in FE roles. You could be asked a front end specific question too like creating a Flash Cards or Star Rating. There could be Leadership Principle questions as well for the phone interview. For onsite, be prepared to talk a lot about LPs as almost each round has LP questions. Then there would be at least 1 coding round (Leetcode type questions), 1 or 2 front end specific rounds, 1 bar raiser and he/she can ask anything from LC or front end, hiring manager round and he would mostly ask LP questions. That’s the breakdown.. so definitely prepare Leetcode questions. Because Frontend engineer do have to deal with picking right data structure and algorithms and sometimes work on the backend too (depends on the team and the project).

Expect nearly half of your interviews to be behavioral based (Leadership Principles). Coding may be a mix of: Leetcode, practical front end development (building widgets like an accordion), trivia (e.g. spa vs ssr, how to support accessibility devices) If the position is L5+ you’ll have a systems design. E.g. design a Twitter clone

I had questions around front end widget building, data structures, leetcode, and system design questions around a dynamically calculated grid system in the UI. Be prepared for anything, honestly.

Phone interview is JavaScript centric: Build an accordion, What does this snippet of JavaScript code do, coding related to prototypal inheritance
