Anyone work in the Herndon, Va Amazon office? If so how is it? how is the city? what city do most of the young people live? DC? Arlington? In addition, what is the commute time?
Herndon is basically the middle of nowhere. Young people don’t live there.
How is the work culture in that office. I have a recruiter teach out for AWS Supply Chain roles
It’s AWS ec2 and some other teams and it’s actually pretty good. Ask for a Seattle tc and you are set
Live in Arlington. When the metro is put to Herndon it's an easy ride on the train. The station is a short walk to office. Also HQ2 will be open in a year or two in Arlington
not exactly a short walk to office, Google maps says 35 min
When will the metro officially be running? And what will the commute be from Arlington to Herndon?
If I get an offer is it worth asking for another office for the same role or is that too risky?
Well, if you're in Nova your options will be.more limited so you will struggle to drive your salary up. I'd try for Seattle, are you local to Boston now? Arlington to Herndon should be reverse commute.
No I’m originally from TX but I live in London now for work and I have interview for the Herndon office as an SA. Ideally I’d like to be in NYC
I got an offer from HQ2. The recruiter mentioned they will be relocating most herndon teams to HQ2
Oh really? Okay bc the job post says for Herndon but I was unaware of the move. Arlington is way better anyways
Yes but don’t take my word for it. It could be that your team doesn’t make the cut. You you can simply just move to any team in HQ2. Currently ec2 and route53 and alexa are in hq2
EC2 teams are great I hear.
i laugh at people who said Arlington is way better than herndon here. Well yes Herndon is a little under developed compared to Arlington, but if you've lived here for a while you'll know Arlington is way too expensive to live, traffic so bad and everything. I'll live wherever and go Herndon for work. it's anti-traffic! My husband's gonna work in Herndon's office and we pray that it'll never move to arlington.
I guess you don’t care about things like culture and eating somewhere besides Outback Steakhouse.
On the contrary, we are Asians and Asian food in Arlington is meh... we now live in Fairfax and it’s like heaven compared with Arlington.

DC and Arlington is where most of the nightlife is, and commute depends on which direction you live. Lots of great food in the area and things to do
