Interviewing on site at amazon. Just curious, in all seriousness, in your experience what are some key things that u think stood out that made the interviewers think you would fit in the Amazon culture and team? Or if u are at amazon and are interviewing candidates, what do you look for?
Also - just be a normal person, don’t be crazy outgoing, don’t be a weirdo, just be a normal person. Goes a long way, more rare than you think and makes your interviewers’ life easier.
People often point out STAR. That’s a good place to start. But the fact is the interview process is very subjective. I say just show up and have fun because you’re talking about dedicating your life to some job you love!
^ STAR in Leadership Principles plus what he/she said.
Prepare 1-2 examples for every leadership principle. I’d suggest writing them out in the star format and practicing before going on site. Be yourself and I’m sure you’ll be great!
It is not subjective and there is nothing secret. You are literally evaluated based on how well your stories exemplify the Leadership Principles. Put them on flash cards and memorize them. No joke. Then prepare 1-2 stories for each one. Other than that, you have to be able to code fairly well. That’s it. Be professional, be courteous, demonstrate the LPs, and solve a few whiteboard challenges.
If there were a standard set of stories that exemplify leadership I would agree with this. But what constitutes a “good story” is subjective to the person taking notes. If you look at who Amazon passes over or manages out of the company you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

Two words: Leadership Principles. Structure all your behavioral answers in the STAR format that incorporate their leadership principle (based on the question asked). Practice on a lot of stories/anecdotes.
