Hi, I'm currently L61 (SDE II) at Microsoft making 120k (plus ~15-20% bonus) with a little over 1 year of experience as an SDE (have a few years of prior experience in the tech industry as a PM/support person though). Still have 75% of my 25k sign on stock bonus vesting at MS. I received an L4 (SDE I) offer from Amazon with the following numbers: Base: 130k Year 1 cash bonus: 38k Year 2 cash bonus: 31k RSUs: 34k (vested over 4 years) Seems to be ~20% more than im making at MS right now. I'm technically going down a level by accepting this offer, which hopefully means a quick promotion to L5 within a year. Just wondering if this is a good offer. I think for an L4 in Seattle it may be on the higher end if i've done my research correctly, but im not sure. According to the recruiter, this is basically the best they can do, but I didn't try asking for more yet. There's also the difference in benefits, which may be substantial. I haven't calculated it yet. Thanks!
I wouldn't down level for 20%. Call me old school but I optimize for salary where possible because I prefer guaranteed paycheck income. So you're looking at a < 10% salary increase and a title demotion. Consider interviewing elsewhere even in 6 months to a year and try to level up. Maybe also ask your manager at Microsoft what your short term promotion trajectory looks like.
I'm expected to get another promotion at MS within a year (i'll be L62). Part of the problem is that i'm not enjoying work. MS is mostly about B2B and my team is extremely boring. At Amazon I have an opportunity to work on customer facing products and to later transfer to fun entertainment teams like Prime or Twitch. Also, the cash bonus is paid out each month over 2 years, so cash take home would be 168k for the first year vs 120k + some uncertain bonus at MS. I kinda fucked up with my MS offer last year and did not negotiate at all, so my sign on and base salary at MS are both pretty low.
L61 @ 120k? Wtf..
Don’t take the downlevel it will mess up your future TC and base. Get an L5 offer and you will be ahead of the game.

not good enough. Usually we compare the benefit of microsoft with amazon we add 20k to TC. So essentially u are moving down a level with the same salary, just a different company. Try somewhere else. A lot of places can give more than that
But the RSU refreshers at Amazon are much more than those at Microsoft. 20k is definitely not true.
There is no refresher for sde1-2 I think unless you are a rockstar you are looking at 0 bonus and 0 refresher unless you are L6 Tell me how 20k is not true. Just from 401k there is already like 9k difference. Then add 1k gym bonus. And no premium health care and etc... hsa money. It definitely adds to 15-20K
