Amazon recruiter changed target from L6 to L5. 122k base, 195k TC offer. Position in Seattle. Is this low? I know HDEs get paid less than SDEs. Other offer: Engineering manager 120k base 10k bonus in hometown with fam support I have 9 YoE with two 3mo kids and a stay at home wife. Is it better to move up the ladder in the same size ladder or switch to a bigger ladder?
Fuck Amazon. Find another company.
If rent/housing is cheap where you are at, I'd take the local offer. Seattle with a total household income of 200k with 2 young children may be difficult as rent is getting more expensive there.
Likely an extra 20-30k minimum extra for Seattle housing vs lcol
Avoid Amazon unless you want to be a Bezos slave
25 year old here with 130k TC in South Florida. COL is low. I live VERY comfortably.
It's all about future. If you want to make around 400 to 500k within next 5 years, use this as a stepping stone. In Florida at best you might be able get 180K.
Dont trust Amazon and their mandatory 10% attrition culture. Doesnt matter if youre good at what you do.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Amazon for the stepping stone
