Amazon L6 Interview Process and Offer!

Sep 24, 2020 361 Comments

Hi blinders, I interviewed for an l6 role early last week and got a verbal offer yesterday! Wanted to share my experience

Update: Apologies, I was checked out for a few weeks. I joined Amazon few weeks back and am extremely excited about it. My final TC was as follows:

$150k base/82k yr1 bonus, 62k yr2/55 RSUs
Yr1 TC: $240k.

Updated: Role Sr.BIE Seattle

Interview process:
1. The interview process was pretty smooth and I really liked speaking with everyone. There were three phone screens (recruiter, HM and a coding tech) followed by the loop!

2. Loop: This was my first time interviewing at Amazon. There were 5 rounds involving 6 people in total. The BR interview had two people.

3. One of the rounds was a coder-pad type sql interview. Most of the questions were around window functions (lag, running total, moving average) and self joins.

4. Each of the 5 interviewers asked at least two LPs and the bar raiser asked 3. I thought the bar raiser interview was the toughest- there were a lot of follow ups. So make sure you go into the details. It will come to you if you really worked on it ;)

Waiting for the actual offer - my TC expectations are $250-$275. I have 11 yoe.

Amazon has one of the lowest hiring bars. What’s there to celebrate?

Wow, it’s sad to see so many big egos and bashing - lol. I don’t care what u say about Amz or the role. I liked the role and I liked the people who interviewed me. I think I can make a small impact working here - not everything needs to be measured in money.

The intention was to share my good news and also to inform on my interview process. We learn from each other - isn’t that what blind is for..Anyways, feel free to dm me and I can respond based on what my experience was. Ofcourse there are many more folks at Amz who can answer better...

Cheers and take a chill pill!

Agreed. 3-5 minutes to lay the foundation is fine. If you're already addressing what would be my follow up questions, I'll just let you keep talking and bring you back on track if you wander. Not all interviewers will course correct you, but they're all looking to get the same data points. That's why you should be concise enough to allow time for follow ups.

All those blabbing about how it doesn't make sense has no clue how Amazon works and won't land an offer. Not sure about advice 3 on the book, but if one can really hone in and rock out the first 2 advices at least 1 foot is already in the door.

I’m interviewing next week for an L6! When you say “interviewers asked at least two LPs”, did they ask two questions related to one LP or ask you multiple questions about two LPs?
