I just interviewed at Amazon Alexa and the recruiter informed me they will be making an L6 offer. I’m L64 at Microsoft, been in this level for 3 years. The recruiter said L6 is similar to a L65 at MS. Is this true? I’m worried about the 2 weeks paid time off, vs the 4 weeks at MS, and not to mention the drive to Seattle, I live on the east side. The role is however very interesting compared to what I do at MS. Would love to hear about what people think, if it is worth to making a move? Have you regretted moving to Amazon, or did you love it?
Does Amazon Seattle only have 2 weeks PTO? It is 3 weeks in Bay Area.
Only for year 1. And then it goes to 3 weeks in year 2. And they don’t tell about extra 6 days of time off you get every year. It’s not that bad. So it’s goes up to 4 weeks in year 2
The HR doesn’t talk about 6 free days we get in Seattle as floating holidays. And 2 weeks in year 1 and then 3 weeks from year2 onwards . Then in year 6 it’s 4 weeks. Take Amazon offer and do something meaningful and crazy. And I have seen folks in 40s with huge experience as L6 in Amazon.
Thanks. Do new hires also get the 6 floating holidays? 3 weeks is not so bad.
Yes.
Did you take it ? Did you negotiate? What was the outcome?

Congrats! L6 PM is a very wide band at Amazon for PM. Your offer will prob be somewhere in the 210 - 260k range depending on exp/performance/competing offers/current comp. Some L6 PMs are making close to 500k now due to stock inflation. I left Microsoft and never looked back. Haven’t thought a single day that I’d ever want to go back to that dysfunctional shit hole. Take it and RUN. If work life balance is your top priority you will miss Microsoft though. No place better if you want to coast. It was shocking how little real work happened in Redmond. Unsurpassed. Most managers don’t give a shit about PTO at Amazon, just don’t log it and take what you need. Discuss this with your manager.
Is this still the case in 2021? Will you continue to stay at Amazon and leaving Microsoft if this is in 2021 for L65 to AMZN L6/7?
