Over communicate with your manager. Ensure expectations are very clear around deliverables and milestones. If you’re stuck, spend a reasonable amount of time troubleshooting but seek help quickly if needed. Find the balance between learning things that deliver value/build skill versus time sink roadblocks that are trivial.
Embrace the chaos a bit. It’s not unique to just amazon and fb, but these are two companies you can learn an incredible amount at and gain invaluable experience.
Soon enough, you’ll be a pro and chaos can be an exciting challenge because you’ve developed the skills necessary to be successful in. You may even be so good at it that you’ll be asked to lead others someday
L6 at Amazon is a very wide band, and most teams have at most a single L6. Some have none. L7 promo is both very tough technically and politically. L6 generally don't have to worry about unjustified PIP and hire to fire. You do have to worry about justified PIP but that is the same as in FB.
I understand E5 at FB can still mainly focus on coding. E6 promo is also easier given it is deserved based on performance.
